Dhaka: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met President Abdul Hamid to convey the party’s position on the observations made in the Supreme Court verdict over the 16th amendment annulment and it cannot an issue of criticism.

“To perform her duty as the party chief, Sheikh Hasina met the President. It can’t be a matter of any criticism,” said Quader.

The AL leader was speaking at a milad mahfil organised by Bangladesh Secretariat Officers and Employees Oikya Parishad, marking the 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“I also met the President with permission from the Prime Minister,” Quader said.

The minister said BNP could neither wage any movement nor raise any protest for eight minutes in the last eight years. “So, their criticism is not acceptable to anyone.”

“Now Fakhrul is trying to send out false messages to keep his party leaders in good humour in absence of its chief Khaleda Zia,” he added.

Voicing deep concern over the meetings of the Prime Minister, the Law Minister and the Attorney General with President Abdul Hamid on the Supreme Court’s 16th amendment verdict, BNP on Thursday described it as an ‘unprecedented incident’.

Speaking at a discussion meeting, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also accused the government of indulging in anti-state activities by taking an open stance against the judiciary and Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.
