With both the Test series and the tri-nation ODI tournament lost to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh were desperate to salvage some pride on home soils in the T20s. However, it looks like the Tigers will have to play the two games in the shortest version without their top performers of the recent past.
Long-time skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza called it quits last April, while it was also known that all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who replaced the former as the captain, is likely to miss out as well.
But it got worse for the Tigers on Wednesday, as both Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim were also ruled out of the first T20. Opener Tamim is having some troubles with his bicep while Mushfiq has sustained a wrist injury.
Stand-in skipper Mahmudullah is still hopeful though, hoping the duo will be cleared to play in a late fitness test.
“We are waiting for some good news. We hope they both will be back,” he said.
Even if they are declared fit, shall they be at their best?
